Position Summary
Autism Collier Charter School is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our multidisciplinary team. Working under the supervision of the school's licensed Occupational Therapist, the COTA will provide direct therapy services that support students' participation in academic, social, self-care, sensory, and daily living activities. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with students with autism and enjoys collaborating with educators, related service providers, and families to help students reach their full potential.
Essential Responsibilities
Implement occupational therapy interventions as outlined by the supervising Occupational Therapist and students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Provide individual and small-group occupational therapy services to improve fine motor, visual motor, sensory regulation, self-care, and functional life skills.
Collect and document student progress data and communicate observations to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
Assist in preparing therapy materials, adaptive equipment, visual supports, and sensory tools.
Collaborate with teachers, behavior analysts, speech-language pathologists, and other staff to promote student success across school environments.
Support the implementation of sensory regulation strategies within classrooms and other school settings.
Assist with classroom accommodations and environmental modifications that promote student participation and independence.
Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings as requested.
Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with school, state, and professional standards.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all applicable federal, state, and school policies.
Requirements
Qualifications
Associate's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
Current Florida licensure as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
Ability to work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
Experience working with children with autism or other developmental disabilities preferred.
Knowledge of sensory processing, fine motor development, adaptive equipment, and positive behavior supports is preferred.
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
