Position Summary:
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide speech and language services to students across all grade levels, from Kindergarten to age 21, with a focus on supporting students with autism and related communication disorders. The SLP will assess, diagnose, and treat students exhibiting a full range of communication disorders, including speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assessment & Evaluation:
Provides screening and evaluation of students referred for speech-language services, selecting appropriate assessment tools, interpreting results, and making recommendations.
Actively participates in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to identify and support students at risk for communication difficulties.
Participates in eligibility meetings, placement staffing, and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) development for students with speech and language impairments.
Intervention & Therapy:
Develops and implements engaging, individualized therapy plans based on assessment data, targeting IEP goals and student needs.
Provides direct instruction in speech, language, fluency, pragmatics, and other communication-related areas in individual and small-group settings.
Supports students in developing functional communication skills using verbal and non-verbal methods, including AAC devices.
Works with students to improve social communication and cognitive-communication skills necessary for academic and life success.
Collaboration & Support:
Works collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to integrate communication goals into the classroom environment.
Provides training and support to staff and parents on communication strategies, including AAC use.
Consults with families regarding student progress and strategies for reinforcing speech and language skills at home.
Documentation & Compliance:
Maintains accurate records of evaluations, therapy sessions, and progress reports in compliance with state and federal requirements.
Ensures adherence to all regulations regarding speech-language services in educational settings.
Assists in Medicaid billing and documentation when applicable.
Professional Development & School Support:
Stays current with research and evidence-based practices in speech-language pathology, including best practices for students with autism.
Participates in school-wide professional learning, training sessions, and initiatives to support student success.
Supports school initiatives aimed at preventing academic failure by promoting effective communication strategies.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders.
Certification & Licensure: Florida State Licensure in Speech-Language Pathology; ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred.
Experience: Previous experience working with students with autism and communication disorders in a school setting preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
Strong understanding of AAC systems and their implementation.
Proficiency in evidence-based speech-language therapy approaches.
Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, therapists, and families.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and data-driven decision-making in educational settings.
